Common questions

Do I need Apple Music?

Yes. Sift works with your Apple Music library, so you need an active Apple Music subscription and to allow Sift access to your music when it asks.

Why does Sift save a copy of my playlist instead of editing it?

Apple doesn't let other apps remove songs from playlists you made. So when you sift a playlist, Sift saves a new "(Sifted)" copy without the songs you removed. Your original stays untouched, and you can delete it in the Music app if you no longer want it. Swiping on Favorite Songs works directly: swiping left removes the song from your favorites.

I swiped the wrong way. Can I undo it?

Tap the undo arrow in the top right. For favorites, undo adds the song back to your favorites.

Do I have to finish a whole playlist at once?

No. Progress saves after every swipe. When you come back, Sift asks whether you want to resume or start over.

What's the daily swipe limit?

The free version includes 50 swipes a day, and the count resets at midnight. Sift Pro removes the limit. Saving a cleaned-up playlist copy is always free.

What does Sift Pro include?

Unlimited swiping, artist playlists, detailed genres (like Shoegaze or Neo-Soul instead of just "Alternative"), and keeping your genre and artist playlists in sync as your favorites change. It's available monthly, yearly or as a one-time lifetime purchase.

How do I restore or cancel a purchase?

To restore, open Sift, tap the person icon in the top right, then Restore Purchases. To cancel a subscription, go to the Settings app → your name → Subscriptions → Sift. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.

Some songs don't have a preview or a detailed genre.

Previews come from the Apple Music catalog, so songs you uploaded yourself or that aren't in the catalog won't have one. Detailed genres come from Last.fm listener tags. Less-known songs sometimes don't have tags yet, and those use Apple's genre instead.

When does playlist sync run?

Every time you open Sift, and in the background when iOS allows it. You can also tap Sync Now in Settings. Sync only removes songs that Sift itself added, never ones you added by hand.
